The calm sunny weather that marked our arrival (29C) repeated itself as the sun rose and the moon shone beautifully across the water on Sunday morning at the start of our sea day north-westwards towards the British Virgin Islands.
We unpacked our large cases and headed for breakfast in the Horizon. We were a little ahead of the crowd as it steadily got busier. There was a lot of server provision, but it could get crowded and I sensed what the feeding of the 5000 was like in today’s world.
With 5000+ passengers on a ship of 180,000 tons, this is cruising on an industrial scale. It seems that ours will be the only ship arriving on Tortola tomorrow and perhaps that’s for the best, as even just 5000 people invading the islands will make a difference to the feel of the place for the day.
We spent the morning familiarising ourselves with the ship which is huge and attractive. Elizabeth then wasted two hours watching Leeds United lose - again. Lunch was a burger/hot dog at Taste 360 on the pool deck.
By this time the sun was on the balcony which was a bit fierce for us so we read/surfed the net indoors.
After dinner we went to the Headliners show 'Sky's the Limit' which E described as P and O's equivalent of the Guardians of the Galaxy ride at Disney. The backdrop was highly coloured and moved about a lot that we felt quite dizzy. We wanted to keep awake to go to a bar but we're so tired that we didn't succeed.
Another day, perhaps.
