We awoke fairly early to find ourselves already docked in Basseterre, St Kitts. Another ship, the Marella Discovery, pulled in alongside us, rather blocking our view.
We were taken to the railway by minibus and our driver, Destiny, gave us an informative drive. We were here last year so much of what we saw and heard about was familiar, but we were reminded that Alexander Hamilton one of the Founding Fathers of the United States was born on the sister island of Nevis.

When we arrived at the train we were surprised to find the carriages were two-storey. We headed for the upstairs open carriage. What a fantastic trip this proved to be.
The train wended its way through lush greenery and the cheery locals waved to us. We were offered a drink - rum punch for G and pina colada for E. The train was fairly rocky and we were in awe of the lady who made and served our drinks. There was one rum punch too many so G magnanimously took it off their hands - he's all heart in these difficult situations! The drinks were delicious and enjoyed by all. A couple of local dancers also performed for us.
The heavens then opened but nobody minded - maybe thanks to the rum!! The whole journey lasted about 2 hours at around 9mph. We were offered and most accepted a second drink and the atmosphere became even more convivial. All agreed it had been an amazing trip and that we would love to do it again.
